Research

Scholarly Activity

Not only is scholarly activity required by the RRC-EM, but it is necessary for the development of the 21st century emergency physician. Physicians must be able to search the medical literature. They must then be able to interpret the literature they have found. This includes knowledge of the basic principles of research such as study design, methodology, statistical analysis, and clinical application. The basic concepts of research are taught in our didactic series and in journal club.

There are several options for our residents to meet their research requirements. They may write case reports, perform a critical analysis of a clinical topic, participate in multicenter research projects, participate in clinical drug trials, identify a performance improvement project and develop a plan, or formulate and design an educational or clinical research project. These projects should be done under the supervision of the resident's faculty advisor and/or program research director.

Some recent and current scholarly projects are listed below.
