Continuing Medical Education Series Debuts
C & M Medical Services launches
their continuing medical education series with the inaugural educational
conference entitled, "Emergency Department APCs: Implementation
Strategies." The conference will be held on Friday, September
8, 2000, at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside. Guest speakers include
Karen Marsh, R.N., M.S.M., president of Kare-Med Consulting in
Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Robert Kottman, M.D., CEO of Alamo
Physician Services in Universal City, Texas.
The day-long event will address the many
facets of HCFA's Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS)
and ambulatory payment classifications (APCs). Topics to be discussed
include the impact of APCs on emergency departments, charge master
redesign, APC procedure coding, and nursing and emergency physician
documentation. The program will provide practical solutions and
techniques for the successful implementation of APCs. Quality
based cost-effective emergency department strategies will also
be presented.
Plans are currently underway for the second
educational conference, "EMTALA 2000: Update on the Emergency
Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act." Slated for Friday, December
1, 2000, at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside, the seminar will
feature leading national experts on EMTALA from both the medical
and legal fields, including HCFA representatives. The EMTALA conference
is co-sponsored by the Louisiana chapter of the American College
of Emergency Physicians, and continuing medical education credits
will be available for participants.
Conference participants will have the opportunity
to engage in discussion with the expert panel regarding the healthcare
industry and the government. Lecturers will present current EMTALA
information, identifying potential obstacles to compliance and
assist attendees in determining the most suitable solutions for
their organization.
Both educational conferences will include
continental breakfast and lunch provided for participants at the
New Orleans Hilton Riverside. A limited number of reduced rate
hotel rooms are available for attendees who will arrive in New
Orleans the day before both events.
