Life
Support Education
In
1995, Dr. Mandry
established an Advanced Life Support Program to provide monthly
courses in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced
Life Support.
These programs are offered to all levels of health care providers
in Louisiana including physicians, nurses and ancillary personnel.
The instructors for these programs include our emergency medicine
residency faculty and our emergency medicine residents.
The
courses use state of the art teaching aids and are presented in
a user friendly atmosphere. Course presentations employ modern adult
teaching techniques designed to maximize retention of the course
objective.

Recruitment
Recruitment,
a vital element provided by C&M, is ongoing and tailored to the
changing needs of our hospitals.
In
order to meet the growing need for trained emergency physicians
within our state, recruitment has grown into a full-time, year-round
effort which not only involves personal referrals, but also advertisements
in medical journals, periodic mailings to eligible physicians, displays
at medical and scientific meetings, and contact with graduating
residents.
C&M seeks for physicians who possess and practice the art of medicine
as well as the science of medicine…those who truly have the ability
to serve as the hospital's ambassadors to the community.
Continuous Quality Development
As
the healthcare quality assurance programs of the past have grown
over the years into continuous quality improvement and quality management
programs, so has C&M's quality improvement program.
Our
program works with physicians to keep them aware of current trends
in the evaluation and management of emergency patients, and provides
them with the materials with which to keep informed.
Our
continuous quality improvement program has been integrated into
our hospitals and has consistently met all of the JCAHO requirements
in Emergency Services.
Emergency Medicine Residency Program
In 1992,
Dr. Mandry's continued commitment to emergency medicine led to the
creation of Louisiana's second residency training program in emergency
medicine.
The purpose of this residency program has been to train physicians
as specialists in emergency medicine who will address Louisiana's
shortage of trained emergency physicians.
This
three year
program is based in Baton Rouge and accepts 12
residents per year for training in emergency medicine, with a total
resident compliment of thirty-
six (36)
Research
As an ongoing part of the residency program
and as C & M's performance improvement efforts, research serves
to:
-
improve the techniques, modalities and technologies for the diagnosis
and management of patients with emergency medical conditions.
-
develop cost-effective management of life-threatening illnesses.
-
improve patient satisfaction and emergency department efficiency.
Scheduling
Physician
scheduling is performed by our scheduling team. Physician requests
are submitted to our coordinators who then match each physician's
availability to our client hospital needs.
This activity is supported by a proprietary computer program that
tracks each physician's availability and identifies back-up physicians
for each of our hospitals in case of an emergency.
A
scheduling coordinator is available 24 hours a day in the event
additional physician coverage is required or to cover for any physician's
emergency who is unable to work.
Billing
The
Billing Department has grown since 1989
from billing only for emergency physicians to a full medical specialty
billing service.
We now bill not only for emergency services, but also for cardiologists,
radiologists, surgeons, internists and all of the medical specialties.
Our
Billing Department has grown from 2 employees in 1989
to over 24 employees
today, and currently bills for over
528,000 patient encounters per year.
