Healthcare reform's buzzwords wax and wane
with the passing political landscape and the various gurus' insights-of-the-month.
I firmly believe that the primary focus has been and always should
be on the patients we serve.
C&M Medical Services' patient-based focus is the cornerstone our
company is built upon. The other building blocks are our responsiveness
to the diverse needs of each client hospital's medical staff,
clinical support departments and administration.
Responding
to governmental and regulatory requirements, we have developed
considerable expertise in JCAHO, EMTALA/COBRA, performance improvement
and risk management. The reality is that the patients - and their
families - ultimately define the quality and value of the services
any hospital emergency department provides.
Perceptions
are not based on good outcomes alone. Patients perceive a continuum
of experiences from the moment they enter the emergency department's
doors. These experiences form patients' perceptions. These perceptions,
multiplied by the number of patients seen each year, will have
the greatest impact on which providers survive and which ones
do not in the increasingly competitive healthcare market.
The current and future power of consumer choice should never be
underestimated or taken for granted.
The
subtext of providing high-quality emergency medical services is
to develop and implement reasonable and responsible cost efficiencies.
To say that this is not easy is an understatement. However, working
towards achieving these efficiencies can be done.
It
takes time, organization and, above all, commitment from the people
involved to pull together for the common purpose of providing
high-quality medical services in a fiscally responsible manner.
Many
of our competitors talk about teamwork, partnerships and collaborations.
These are only clichés if they cannot actually deliver.
Now into our second decade in business, we at C&M Medical Services
have a proven track record of providing high-quality medical care,
aggressively responding to our client hospitals' medical staffs
and administrators, and introducing innovative processes and efficiencies.
In the subsequent articles, members of our staff share their knowledge
and insights that we hope you will find useful.
